The Center for Global Security Research's (CGSR) mission is to provide technology, analysis, and expertise to aid the US government in preventing the spread or use of weapons of mass destruction (WMD), and examining the policy implications of proliferation of WMD, as well as deterrence. There are openings for undergraduate and graduate students and recent bachelors or master’s level graduates within one year, to engage in practical research experience to further their educational goals. You may conduct research in the fields of nuclear engineering, computational sciences, materials science and engineering, cyber security, interactive data mining, and research to support United States (US) policy and decision makers in developing strategies for national and international security.
Note:This is a Temporary Student Intern appointment. This assignment is full time or part time during the academic semester/quarter. Refer to the Scholar Program website at https://scholars.llnl.gov/ for additional student employment information.

Social Science Internship (Summer 2017) at Civis Analytics (Chicago, IL)

The Civis Social Science Team empowers clients to make good decisions based on sound social science methods. The Department to Address Transnational Threats (TNT Department) supports the Secretary General in functioning as the focal point of Organization-wide programmatic activities relating to countering transnational threats and in ensuring co-ordination and coherence of action across all three dimensions and among all OSCE executive structures, while respecting their mandates. Qualifications:
- University degree in international affairs, international law, political sciences, social sciences or security studies;
- A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in international affairs; previous experience with OSCE or other international organizations, especially in project management, would be a distinct asset;
- Experience in multilateral affairs, project co-ordination and implementation is highly desirable. - Practical experience in working for or in co-ordination with the UN system would be an asset;
Experience in anti-terrorism-related technical assistance programmes and projects would be a distinct asset;
- Familiarity with concepts and capacity-building in the area of preventing and countering violent extremism and radicalization that lead to terrorism (VERLT) is highly desirable;
- Planning and organizing skills with ability to multi-task and adhere to tight deadlines;

USAID Terrorist Analyst Position
The work of the Terrorist Screening Center (TSC) Analyst requires teamwork, self-motivation, the exercise of discretion, judgment and the ability to work well under stress. The group meets weekly for 90 minutes at Shoemaker Building. This group requires the group members to participate in the group regularly for one semester as the consistency of your presence and participation in the group has proven to be helpful for deeper conversation and developing solid friendship and support systems.
The group is only open for 8-10 people for a semester. Research Analysts play an integral role in both the policy and research functions of the Research and Statistics Group. The economists, whose specialties include banking and payment systems, capital markets, international economics, macroeconomics, and microeconomics, work closely with Research Analysts. The relationship with Israel has long been, and remains, a major part of American foreign policy. It is important to both and each has an impact on the other. Few scholars and practitioners have addressed the nature of that relationship as carefully, and for such a long time, as Arthur Abramson. His Ph.D. dissertation at the University of California, Los Angeles, was on "The Formulation of American Foreign Policy towards the Middle East during the Truman Administration, 1945–1948”. In his long career, he has continued studious and practical attention to that relationship over the course of eleven American administrations. We are deeply interested in his extraordinarily well-grounded assessment of how that special relationship could be affected by the results of the upcoming American elections.
Dr. Abramson received his B.A. from Queens College, City University of New York, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles. Prior to his twenty-six year tenure as the Executive Director of the Baltimore Jewish Council, he was Assistant Area Director for the American Jewish Committee in Los Angeles (where he also taught political science courses), the Washington State Area Director for the American Jewish Committee (3 years), and the Community Relations Director for the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston (7 years). During his service to the Jewish community, he not only has experienced the complexity of the Israel-U.S. relationship, but also has remained a serious student of it. We are fortunate to have Dr. Abramson share his thoroughly developed understanding with us.

The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program is a fully funded summer overseas language and cultural immersion program for American undergraduate and graduate students. With the goal of broadening the base of Americans studying and mastering critical languages and building relationships between the people of the United States and other countries, CLS provides opportunities to a diverse range of students from across the United States at every level of language learning. Program Analyst Position Open at the Bureau of Diplomatic Security
This position is located in the Policy and Planning Division, Office of Management Services, Office of the Executive Director, Bureau of Diplomatic Security. The Policy and Planning Division exercises Bureau-wide responsibility for the development and implementation of a framework of policies and guidelines that govern the management and operation of the Bureau and oversees the strategic planning documents.
