Careers in International Affairs: Pathways and Opportunities in Gender, Diplomacy and Development

Join the Women's Foreign Policy Group for a conversation with international affairs professionals to gain insight into their career paths and learn what skills are needed to succeed.

The even will feature multiple women leaders in the field.

Candace Bates: a member of the Career Foreign Service, is currently the Policy Advisor for African Affairs in the Secretary's Office of Global Women's Issues at the State Department. In this capacity, she helps drive US foreign policy in sub-Saharan Africa to support women's political and economic participation; remove barriers to women's and girls' access to education; increase women's role in conflict resolution; and combat violence against women and girls.

Jennifer Hawkins: a Democracy Fellow and Women, Peace, and Security Advisor in USAID's Bureau for Democracy, Conflict, and Humanitarian Assistance; Office of Program, Policy, and Management, which manages funding and provides coordination to facilitate implementation of the US National Plan on Women, Peace, and Security (NAP) and the corresponding USAID Implementation Plan.

Lauren Supina: a strategist for foundations and companies seeking to form cross-sector partnerships for social impact. Lauren has dedicated her career to transforming the lives of women and girls by advancing women's economic and political power both domestically and internationally.

Stephenie Foster (Moderator) a Senior Advisor in the Secretary's Office of Global Women's Issues. She previously served at the US Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan where she focused on women and civil society.
